Case Study:

Renovation by the Beach - A Mastercraft Kitchen

This feature kitchen sits well with the surroundings by perfectly complimenting its view of the Pacific Ocean. Designed by Jesykah Gordon and crafted by Mastercraft Kitchens. I caught up with Jess recently and this is what she had to say:

What inspired you to use the colours for this kitchen?

We wanted a clean, contemporary look that didn’t contrast with the incredible beach view. The client chose Glass Art “Tracey’s Cloud” for the splashback. It was a very close match to their Oak & Glass table in the adjoining dining space so it gave the open plan area some continuity.

What did you want to achieve with the design of this kitchen?

This was a renovation and the previous kitchen was extremely dated and tired. The clients wanted something with ‘wow’ factor, which we achieved with the mixture of glossy surfaces and light boxes. We needed to maintain the practical aspects required in an entertainers kitchen while ensuring the aesthetic wasn’t compromised. The island is small, but looks much bigger and more robust with the waterfall enclosures down 3 sides.

Where did you get the ideas for the lighting?

My client found images in some European magazines that they liked, and we developed these ideas to create the light boxes. The entire unit glows at night and looks incredible.

And finally, the amazing bar downstairs, what was the inspiration for the colours?

Where the kitchen colours are pale & clean, the bar/media room has a more masculine palette. The black & red are very dramatic and show off the lights and stainless steel to its very best. These powerful colours are striking while still blending well with the purpose and decor of the room. This is one of my favourite projects… with full kitchens we don’t often get to be so bold!

Thanks for that Jess.
