Innovative Lighting for Tauranga Vets

Gael Garrett, from Garrett Interior Design, had one objective for the new Tauranga Vets – ‘I wanted to make a statement'

She achieves this with a stunning front entrance that catches the eye of anyone passing the corner of 9th Ave and Cameron Rd.

Inside the building the space becomes a retail outlet for pet accessories and a waiting room for owners and their pets. Here, Gael had to merge two quite different environments without compromising the design.

She had the idea of lighting up the space behind the front desk to announce to visitors that they had arrived at Tauranga Vets. She achieved this with LED lighting and having the Vets logo stencilled in a white pearl lacquer on to the back of a clear piece of glass, and then once stencilled, the backing colour is painted over the stencilling.

A strip of LED lighting runs directly underneath and on top of the 5mm glass, shinning through it to give an illuminated appearance, with the white pearl finish enhancing the illuminated effect further.
